Legislative Policy Aide

Description: This is a full time position serving as the legislative policy aide for the Lansing office of State Representative Leslie Love.  The position requires an individual to perform administrative, legislative, and constituent duties.  Responsibilities include overseeing the Representative’s legislative agenda with a strong research and tracking of legislation emphasis, maintaining positive constituent relations, responding to constituent communications, working to resolve constituent issues, supervising interns, organizing daily task, and monitoring the office allotment. Additional responsibilities include research and preparation of materials for legislative committees, session and district events, writing various communications and assisting with drafting policy. The position requires excellent analytical, problem-solving, written, oral communication and organizational skills; along with the ability to work independently; under strict deadlines.  Occasional travel to the district is required.  

Salary Range: Negotiable

Minimum Qualifications: The preferred candidate must be personable, professional, resourceful, creative, service-oriented, and possess strong administrative, organizational, clerical and leadership skills.  The applicant must be able to meet deadlines and accomplish objectives within the complex, difficult situations that are common in the fast-pace, high-pressure legislative environment. 

The position requires proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Social Media, and the ability to learn other software applications as needed.  The applicant must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, telephone techniques and etiquette, and positive customer relations skills.  Applicant must also be self-motivated, detail oriented, assuming responsibility without direct supervision or direction.  Executive office administration experience and/or evidence of successful experience working in a legislative office is preferred.
