Legal Externship

Office: State Representative Peter J. Lucido

General Description: The office of Representative Peter J. Lucido of the 36th District is currently looking to fill an externship position in his Lansing office for the 2018 spring semester (January through May).  The selected candidate will have the opportunity to assist the Representative and his staff with research assignments, analytical writing, as well as some general office operations including constituent relations, communications and monitoring legislation.  Additional projects on a broad range of policy topics may be assigned based on the qualifications of the extern.  The selected candidate will gain valuable hands-on office and legislative experience in a fast-paced environment while being supervised by a licensed attorney of 30 years.  Hours are negotiable.

Pay Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a student, veteran, or participant in job entry program. Currently enrolled law students are preferred.  Strong applicants will have a positive attitude, previous office experience including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, telephone skills, and writing skills.  Knowledge of the Legislature and Macomb County is desired but not required.  Applicants should have a writing sample, transcripts, and references available upon request.

Caucus: Republican

The position is a non-civil service appointment to state government.  All employees of the House of Representatives are considered at-will.
