Graphic Design Internship

General Description: IMMEDIATE OPENING - The House Democratic Communications department is currently looking for a talented, hard-working graphic artist to fill an internship position in their Lansing office.  This intern will have the opportunity to assist the in-house graphics design team in designing and producing digital and print materials including newsletters and web content.  Other projects may be assigned based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.  The selected candidate will gain valuable hands-on graphic design (including several portfolio pieces) and legislative office experience in a fast-paced environment.

Pay Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Work Schedule: Hours are negotiable.  Specific schedule to be determined on an individual basis.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a student, veteran, or participant in job entry program.  Applicants should be energetic, creative, organized, and detail-oriented, with a degree or major in computer-based graphic design.  The ideal candidate is a team player who can learn fast, work on multiple design teams, and juggle several projects at once.  A keen sense of design, excellent time management skills, and the ability to take constructive criticism are imperative.  He or she also must be able to produce high-quality work in a short time, working well under pressure from tight deadlines.

Strong applicants will have a positive attitude, previous digital and print media experience including knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, previous office experience including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, as well as business telephone and writing skills.  Knowledge of the Legislature is desired but not required.  Applicants must submit a link to their electronic portfolio with their resume and cover letter.  A writing sample and/or references should be made available upon request.
