Legislative Intern

Description: Representative Tim Greimel and his staff are dedicated to the needs of the constituents of the 29th House District both within the district and elsewhere in Michigan.  He and his staff are in need of one or two Legislative Interns to assist with the responsibilities of running a successful legislative office in Lansing during the 2017 fall semester.  Interns will have the opportunity to assist the Member and his staff in constituent casework and communication via phone and in writing, researching policy issues, data entry, and general office operations.  Interns will also have several opportunities to attend events with staff with the potential to assist in event planning at the discretion of Representative Greimel.  Selected candidates will gain valuable hands-on office and legislative experience in a fast-paced environment.  Hours are negotiable, though a commitment of at least eight to ten hours per week are generally needed for the completion of a productive internship.

Salary Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a student, veteran, or participant in job entry program. Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.  Strong applicants will be dependable and have a positive attitude, professional demeanor, previous office experience including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and effective telephone skills.  Knowledge of the Legislature is desired but not required.  Students with a willingness to learn about the legislative process and related issues are encouraged to apply.  Applicants should have a writing sample and references available upon request.
